about Opensolaris.

Last night i decided to give Opensolaris 10.something a try.
Lets start with the install procedure, i wanted to place it on
a primary partition of my harddrive. On that drive i have two other
primary partitions and 4 logical partitions.

When it came to choose the install location i was really confused.
OS showed me just 3 Partitions and not 7. After a while of checking
partition sizes it came to me that it showed the 4 logical ones as
one whole partition, ok, a little bit disturbing, but not that much.

The rest of the install runs fine and smooth without much user interaction
or any problems.
Besides the fact that it behaves just like windows and overwrites the MBR
of the harddrive without asking for confirmation or something like that.

It recognized my windows install that i could boot later on, but not
my arch linux installation which i had to recover by hand after i shot
OS to the ground.

So i rebooted and was able to login to OS, but wait, what is that?
No connection to my lan? And with that no connection to the internet?
How is that?
Every fucking linux distribution is able to setup by DHCP network.
So i was looking around until i found out, there comes no driver for
my Marvell GB ethernet device with OS.
Oh wait, that is wrong, there is a driver, but it isn't shipped with the
CD.

However, google is my friend and after downloading the appropriate driver
from marvell with my laptop, moving it to the usb stick and then to the
OS installation i was able to install it "easily" with some mysterious
commands.

Ok, now that i have internet i wanted to check out the temperature
for my cpu. All i found was a mysterious dtrace solution which doesnt
work for some ASUS Mobos, which i had one. However, i didnt get
the script working anyways.

But, no problem, i dont need the temperature urgently, what i needed
was my data from my home partition or my backups which resided under
ext3 or ext4.
Googling gave me the hint that these filesystems are not supported by
default and i had to install another driver by hand, just to get
ext2 support in *read only*.
Wow, in mid 2009, OS already has ext2 read only support?
That is crap.
The same for NTFS.

Surely, Solaris or Opensolaris is a great server system
but for home use its nearly useless, at least for me.

It looked nice, but there are so many showstoppers that its
simply unuseable for me...

schon gelesen hab, aber die Story ist einfach zu geil.

Nein nein, wir müssen gar nicht mehr dementieren dass es solche
Menschen gibt, wozu auch, weiss ja eh jeder dass der Staat gern
mit anstachelt, oder?

hab mir mal wieder ein paar Gedanken gemacht. Ok, das ist
jetzt nichts besonderes, aber im Zuge des Denkens kam ich auf
folgende Frage:

"Wo steht eigentlich dass Firmen (und damit letztendlich Menschen)
miteinander um die Gunst und das Geld anderer (Menschen (Konsumenten))
konkurrieren müssen?"

Das scheint so ein ungeschriebenes Gesetz des Kapitalismus zu sein,
an das sich wohl die Mehrheit der industrialisierten Länder hält.
Ja es scheint sogar Vorraussetzung zu sein um von den industrialisierten
Ländern Ernst, oder überhaupt, wahr genommen zu werden.

Wär es denn nicht viel sinnvoller die Kräfte zu bündeln und gemeinsam
an technologischem und sozialen Fortschritt zu arbeiten?

Wo steht denn dass nur Konkurrenz Fortschrifft schaffen kann?
Wer kann das glaubwürdig begründen?

Und wer kann glaubwürdig begründen dass eine soziale Gemeinschaft
die nicht konkurriert nicht denselben Fortschritt in derselben Zeit
schaffen kann?

Das Internet in Deutschland wurde heute ganz offiziell vom LG Karlsruhe
geschlossen.
Jenes urteilte:

Nach der kleinen Welt Theorie, die ja auch in Netzwerken gelten soll, wie
es das Internet ist, verlinkt also jeder der überhaupt verlinkt, über eine
paar Urls letztendlich zu einem Link der strafbares Material enthält!

Ich distanziere mich hiermit von allen meinen jemals gesetzten Links
frei nach Pulp Fictions Motto: "Was? Du rufst von einem Handy aus an?
Ich kenn dich nicht! Telefonscherz Telefonscherz!"

Wer das alles für einen üblen Scherz hält, möge bitte in der aktuellen

Bald ist es so weit.
Wenn man sich die Überlegungen hernimmt Killerspiele bald
ganz verbieten zu wollen und da die neuesten Forschungsergebnisse
dass Killerspiele langanhaltend die Sehfähigkeit verbessern (insbesondere die
Kontrastempfindlichkeit der Augen) dann könnte man zu der
logischen Schlussfolgerung kommen dass Killen an der Konsole bald
von den Augenärzten verschrieben wird.

Bekommt man dann die Spiele in der Apotheke?
Muss man da auch nur 5.x € zuzahlen?
Das wär doch mal was, immer die neuesten Spiele

Today i was trying out plone. With the unified installer
it aint a big thing to install plone, but when it comes to
make a new buildout you can get in a slight hassle.
At least i did. In the buildout routine you come to a point
where you do:
python bootstrap.py

I used the python that is installed with arch. But then you get
a lot of errors complaining about missing PIL:

So, to get around that you have to use the python
that came with the unifiebind installer like:
/path/to/plone/Python-2.4/bin/python bootstrap.py

been a long time scince my last post and a think a long time will pass until my next post. However, this is something everybody can see who is taking a look at my blog so its totally useless to post this sentence.

This one is going to be about motivation. I think everybody knows this. You get a task, no matter from whom or with what intense and you think. Ahhh, no problem, thats an easy one. I get that one done in, let's say, three days. And because that task is sooooo easy you instantly start it and get some things done. And see, everything is working like expected and you think, oh wait, i can get a coffee, its still early in the morning.
So you stand up and make yourself a coffee. Back again with your coffee you wanna get back to work, but wait. There is that little thingy you read some days ago about. That little, cute and nice thingy you urgently need for your computer. Everybody got it and because you're always the most up-to-date guy in your hood you obviously need it to.
Ok, coffee and brain ready, yea. So lets start the search and throw up google. Ouh, wait, wasn't there something? Ah, the task, damn it, why now? Who needs a fuckin task if you can have that little thingy? And you start to think, shouldn't i get my task done first of all?
Uhm, its such an easy task, i can spend some time for that thingy and still get it done in no time.
So you start looking and compiling and installing, but it won't work as suspectied and so you start looking for that error and possible solutions.
But wait, whats that? The clock must be wrong, its already 6 pm? WTF? How can that be? Work time is over and still, no little thingy. Uhm, so its gotta have to wait.
Ok, new day new luck. Lemme check. Next little Step for my task? Ah, it's really easy, i almost did it in a few seconds.
Cool, so i can check back to see if i get that little thingy installed today. But, no luck once more. This day is gone by like the last one. But, the thingy is almost done, you spent one more hour to get it working and tada. Everything is fine. Time to get home.
So the next day is here and you boot up and aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh. That cool thingy is really cool, you call everybody and show it around. A friend really appreciates it, but after watching a while he asks: "What about your task? You got it done?".
You think: "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". But say: "Yea almost, its just a question of time.". Apropos time. Only some hours left, but we're cool.
Back to work and back to task. But oh, uh, ah, a little problem appeared. And it grows and grows with every step i take to solve it.
All of a sudden your boss is in the door and says: "Are you done?" Of course not, but you cannot tell that to him, nor show him your little progress.

At least your working over night and finish it, but to what price. And this is how your whole life is. You get tasks and projects but cannot get them done in time or only with huge effort in the last timeperiod. Doesn't that suck immense?
Wouldn't you like to be more productive? Wouldn't you want to get things done in time and not in hurry. Wouldn't you want to get things done at all.
I don't have solutions to this, but the mighty internet has and oh, its an easy one:

fahr echt zu wenig Bahn, und zu selten.
Was man da nicht so alles erlebt. Gerade eben stand ich
frierend in der Kaelte an der Haltestelle, hab an nichts gedacht
ausser daran dass es bei mir zu Hause nicht viel waermer
sein wird, kommt da so ein Typ mittleren Alters, stellt sich
in meine Naehe laesst ganz froehlich einen fahren und schwups
di wups zieht er wieder von dannen. Anscheinend war es
ihm sichtlich peinlich, und ich hatte was zu lachen
Ist ja nur natuerlich irgendwie, auch wenn es erstmal "komisch"
erscheint. Ja ja, solche Sachen erlebt man nur wenn
man auf die Bahn warten darf...

Toll, der ist so schoen wahr, zumal ich ja neulich
erst wieder in einem vollen Zug sass.

Es ist wirklich erstaunlich. Seit Jahren
sind die Zuege die am Sonntag zwischen
Dresden und Nuernberg verkehren gerammelt voll.
Teilweise steigt man dort ein und muss im Gang stehen.

Aber nicht in dem Gang wo die Klos sind, nein
die sind ja schon voll, im Gang in den grossen
Abteilen zwischen den Sitzgelegenheiten.

Also, ich mein, das kann schon mal passieren.
Aber wenn das mit dieser Regelmaessigkeit vorkommt ist
das eine Frechheit. Da werden auch nicht mehr
Waggons eingesetzt, noee, das waer ja bloed.

Die Leute fahren ja auch so, sind ja meist nur Studenten,
Bundis und ein paar derer die noch Arbeit haben
ausserorts.

Ach was solls, aufregen bringt eh nichts.

Davon mal abgesehen moechte ich aber eigentlich nicht
so auf der Bahn rumklopfen. Ich hab ansonsten fast
nur positive Erfahrungen gemacht in 6 Jahren Pendlerdasein.

Man kann, wenn man die vollen Zuege vermeidet, in Ruhe schlafen,
lernen oder lesen. Ab und zu lernt man auch nette Menschen kennen.
Vor allem seitdem das WE-ticket oder Sachsenticket so hoch
im Kurs steht, da finden sich ja immer ein paar Gruppen.

Also, liebe Leute fahrt ruhig oefter mit der Bahn, aber vermeidet
die Sonntagszuege.
Sry, ich weiss das ist ne miese Pointe, aber ich hab einfach keine tolle
mehr zu bieten heute...

Thanks to the Arch forum i found that site:

And i was convinced in a very short time.
I need to learn the dovrak layout, especially the programmers
dvorak layout. Some years ago i switched from the german keyboard
layout to the english one cause typing ALT-GR + 8 is a real
pain, and this is what you gotta do to type a "[" with a german
layout.

But i was not that satisfied, until i found the idea of ddvorak.

After some trial and error i got thrown back. The ddvorak layout
is not implemented in Linux yet.

So i tried to remap everything with xmodmap, but no luck.
I mean i was successfull until i came to the dead key ',' which
i couldn't get working, no matter what i tried.
Whereas the dead key ',' is a very important one in the
DDvorak Layout.

Like i said, after some hours i was tired of fiddeling around
and i decided to use the Programmers Dvorak Layout which should
be part of every Linux installation that is a bit newer.
You can load that layout with:

setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout us -variant dvp

But thats only first part.
One thing i found out was really useful was the backspace
function at the 'b' key. Believe me, it feels like enlightement
if you dont have to break your right hand to delete some
characters. So i remapped the standard dvorak programmers
layout in the "us" file of
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols

(Other distros may have the file somewhere else)

This is the part that i changed:

key { [ q, Q ] };

This means i moved all the keys of the down left
row one position to left.
I didnt find out how to map Backspace functionality
to the 'b' key in that us file.

After some research i came back to xmodmap.

Here is my current .xmodmap:

keycode 56 = BackSpace
keycode 9 = Caps_Lock
keycode 66 = Escape

clear Lock
add Lock = Caps_Lock

This means:
1. Map the Backspace functionality to keycode 56, which
is the 'b' key on my keyboard.
Which is fu***** handy.

The Rest remaps the Escape and Caps Lock function.
I am doing a lot of writing in gvim.
(gvim >>>>> All)
Everybody who uses gvim a lot knows that getting
to command mode breaks up the left Hand.

So i took the idea from the ddvorak man and thought.
Hey, i rarely never use that goddamm Caps_Lock key which
is in a very close position to the left Hand.

To make a long story short.
Line 2 remaps the Caps_Lock function to my 'Esc' Key.
Line 3 remaps the Escape function to my 'Caps Lock' Key.

Line 4 and 5 are needed for whatever, i know remapping
Caps Lock wont work without them.
Ask google for more information.

Dem vorraus gegangen war folgendes interessantes

i found something very interesting which seems unexplainable
right now to me.

For my project i created a navigation list, nothing special,
you can find it everywhere on the net.

So i had that html code (removed leading "<"):

That did result in a whitespace after the text "Login" which drove
me insane.

So i found out i have to get the whole li> Element on one line like that:

And that solved everyting

Hate it or love it.
If you use (g)vi(m) often or from
time to time and firefox for browsing you
definitely need vimperator:
vimperator

This is such a great Add which makes browsing with
your keys an easy thing, just like editing files
with vim.

Yea, this is a failure which may come
when you write:

def LatestProfileNode(Node):

instead of:

class LatestProfileNode(Node):

Which is very clear if you think about
it enough

I hope the django developers find a slightly
better failure message for that.
